Chain Gang News - 3rd June

Road Race Training - Chaingang Thursday 3rd June

The one man team is a complete and total myth.
Don Shula

****Meet at Church Langton School 6.30pm - 6.45pm to start riding at 6.45pm****

Business as usual... I hope.

The chaingang will see reduced numbers throughout June as a number of events take their toll.

The NCRA summer series starts this week and will affect Thursday 3rd, 17th and 24th June.

The National Cycle Race in Kettering 10th June may also have an affect as many riders may want to ride out to watch this spectacular event.

I will be competing in the NCRA events but will continue to coordinate the chaingang for those who wish to ride.

The large number of riders involved over the last two months has been part of the chaingang's attraction. With reduced numbers, some riders may choose to train elsewhere. I would dearly like to think that the chaingang continued throughout the busy month of June so...

If you would like to ride the chaingang on Thursday and would like to know who else is riding, reply to the relevant post in the forum stating your intentions or send me an email:

and I will add to the forum in some way.

The training session is open to all club members, and that welcome is warmly extended to members of other clubs in the surrounding area.

If you are new to cycling and are considering joining a club then please contact the New Member Liaison Officer for advice or to arrange a trial session. The officers email is available on the Welland Valley CC web site.

The chaingang course offers a challenging circuit with short cuts (if they are taken), that serve us in a number of ways:

·         They allow us to split up the main group initially

·         provide dropped riders a means to get back in with a working group.

·         allow slower groups to get back in front of a chasing group

·         provide a shorter route for riders who need them.

The course

From Church Langton school - Proceed to Thorpe Langton, then Welham and then to turn right to Weston by Welland and do Three circuits on the chain gang course (Weston by Welland, left to Medbourne, left to Slawston, left to Cranoe, Left to Welham and around again). When passing through Cranoe for the third time, instead of going left to Welham at Cranoe, carry straight on and turn left up to Church Langton and the school car park to complete the course.

For your Safety

It would be prudent to ride with a rear light and although daylight hours have increased, a front light is advisable if you intend riding home. A helmet is also advisable when riding in a group. I would also like to mention that Tri-bars should not be fitted and definitely not used.
