Atkins storms to victory
GB academy rider and former Welland Valley Whizz Kid, George Atkins, stormed to victory on Sunday morning in the Welland Valley CC 20 mile time trial at Naseby.
The testing course was made all the harder by a gale force wind along the airfield straight at Sibbertoft which made Atkins time all the more remarkable. Atkins, who has recently been selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Games, recorded a time of 46:17 on a standard road bike, and in the process smashed the previous course record.
Tom Sexton took 2nd place with 49:37, six seconds clear of David Clarke in 3rd 49:43. Junior rider Tom Harrison has had an excellent season so far and was in superb form to finish 4th recording 50:56 and Matt Plews rounded off the top five with 51:20.
The title of Club Champion will be decided on the final round, the Hill Climb at Neville Holt on October 10th.
