A strong team of Welland Valley CC members travelled to Leighton Buzzard for round 3 of the Central Cyclo-cross League.

A fast circuit based around the perimeter of the Cedars Upper School saw the 'cross squad' cornering and jumping hurdles at speed.

The fast flowing course needed a strong start to stay in the wheels and save going into the 'red zone' as they accelerated out of the corners.

After a later than normal start to the cross season, Fraser Ayears had a break from his studies with Oaklands College Cycling Academy to take an excellent third place in the junior race.

Fraser's brother Joel Ayears, contested the Under 14 boys race. Joel was joined by team-mate Huw Wilson

Both youngsters made an electric start with Wilson challenging at the front of the field with Ayears close behind. After 30 minutes racing Huw finished 9th and Joel 17th.

The veteran team looked at ease over the hurdles soon jumping back into the saddle and pushing on the pedals.

Hans van Nierop was the best placed in 18th place, he was backed up by James Simons-Boswell, resplendent in brightly coloured socks, in 59th.
Adrian Killworth was 63rd and newbie cross rider Nick Horder 69th.

Vic Barnett was back in the action less than 24hrs after completing in the National Trophy. The 'young at heart' veteran showed his world class as he finished an excellent 15th over 50 and first in his age group.
