Podiums galore at Kettering

02 Dec 2017

The Welland Valley 'Muddy marvels' cross squad made the short trip to Progolis Park Kettering for round 11 of the Central League.
On a cold misty day, the course tested the competitors stamina and skill.
The days racing got off to cracking start as the Whizz Kids produced outstanding results.
Andrew Deathridge romped to a great victory in the under 8's. Jamie Kershaw enjoyed the conditions as he grabbed a fantastic second in the under 10's.
Lone Welland rider Luke Jones produced another fine ride to finish 10th in the Under 12's.

'Muddy marvels' were back on the podium as Sarah Vigrow was first Veteran Lady over 45, her son Louis Jakobson was third in the Under 16's.
Fraser Ayears suffered a heavy fall on his ribs to finish 2nd Junior.
Adrian Read rode to victory in the novice race.

There was other notable performances on a course that saw the competitors struggling to stay upright in the greasy conditions.
Huw Wilson executed a superb race, he flowed through the technical sections to finish 7th Under 14. Joel Ayears also dialled in great skills as he finished just behind Huw in 10th place.
The club had fantastic numbers in the veteran 40 plus race. As the course started to cut up riders were seen to be constantly dabbing a foot down on the course to stabilise their effort. Nick Horder enjoyed the course as he finished 22nd, after earlier effort Adrian Read was 33rd ahead of a string of Welland riders.
Dan High 36th, Adrian Killworth 39th, Dean Barnett 40th, Nik Kershaw 43rd and David Wilson 48th all rode strongly over the 40 minutes.
In the Vet 50 Jake Jakobson finished 25th in a high quality race.

Congratulation Kettering CC, volunteers and officials - club member James Simons-Boswell once again officiating - for a great days racing.

Dean Barnett
