Results

Welland Valley CC welcomed the local support from wine merchant Duncan Murray, in his second year of cycle sport sponsorship. He offered some enthusiastic support in true French tradition, with Champagne for the first 3 across the line and King of the Hills; prizes also for Lantern Rouge, most aggressive rider and the Cippolini Prize for the rider with the most panache! Duncan Murray is extending his support to the main race next year. The King of the Hills prize kept the race intact for the first 3 of 4 laps with junior Thomas Ison gaining maximum points to win the prize. Martin Webster and Austin Jones stole away from the bunch before the bell lap with 13 miles to go. The experienced vet., Martin Webster, took the sprint from Austin Jones who gained his 2nd category licence and won the ‘Most Aggressive Rider’ prize. The bunch sprint was taken by David Jakeman of Team Sirius at 1:16, the testing of the BCF’s new photo finish software was put to good use on this blanket finish which made usual result taking guesswork after the first 3! The Cippolini prize went to a surprised Mark McVitty (Lance Armstrong lookalike).
