Friday Night Summer Series MTB Races
Review
A great addition to the series, well
organised by Del Spicer and the Welland
Valley CC
Dave Collins Scott UK pushed the pace on
this new fast course to eventually take an
easy win. Nick Jones actually led round for
the first lap before being joined by Collins
and matt and Ryan for a 4 man dice. Matt
Barrett and Ryan Henry hung on for a few
laps, but eventually had to submit to
battling for 2nd place. It went to the wire,
with Ryan making up for an earlier round by
getting the jump in the sprint for the line.
Nick faded to 4th only a few seconds back
though.
Dave’s wife Sarah riding for Webster Cycles
took the ladies win from Raleigh’s Lisa
Hollingshead.
In the Vets race Martin Eadon got the jump
from the gun and was quickly joined by Gary
Hill, Keith Sperry and Jack Peterson. By the
end of the lap 1 it was still very close;
Sperry from Hill now joined by Phil Roach
with Peterson and Eadon behind, now joined
by Pete Harris.
Sperry kicked on lap 2 and only Hill could
keep with him, they then battled to the
flag, each trying to drop the other on
successive laps to no effect. Hill managed
to save something for the final climb and
jumped clear to pull away in the sprint for
a well deserved first ever win in the FNSS
series.
Roach finally pulled away from the fading
Peterson and was joined in the battle for
3rd by Harris, but Pete was the stronger and
took 3rd place with a strong last lap.
Peterson punctured and retired.
In the Grand Vets Vic Barnett looked like he
had it sewn up, leading for the first 5
laps. He faded lapping a min a lap slower at
the end, as the heat took toll and Rob
Chaundy who was working well with a bunch of
seniors swept past for the win.
Jamie Harris and Jonathon Walton took easy
wins in the Junior and youth races. |
