Following the previous weeks damp and muddy round it Harrington Aerodrome, the conditions for round 14 of the FNSS at Spanhoe Aerodrome were superb.
A bright blue sky and full sunshine graced the Extra UK - Cycling Brands Distributor sponsored series. The course set out by Martyn Bevan and his CATS teammates tested the riders ability to the max.
Celebrating his birthday only 24hrs earlier enabled 12 year old Huw Wilson to ride his maiden FNSS. The Welland Valley Whizz Kid was joined by teammates Kian Traynor and Will Perkins, all three rode brilliantly on a challenging course which saw experienced riders struggling with the gradients.
As the course made good use of multitude of different terrains from a flat runway to a technical quarry sections to open farmland with a fast descent into the valley with spectacular views of Harringworth Viaduct and its 82 archways. The unfortunate thing was the lung bursting climb back up the hill!
First of the Whizz Kids to finish was Kian in 5th, followed by Huw 6th and Will 7th.
At the other end of the age spectrum Steve Welch was leading Welland rider in the Vets 40 finishing 10th, Adrian Killworth was 11th.
Riding a storming race and having to recover from a puncture on the start line was Nik Kershaw who finished 13th .
Kevin Mills rode a determined race in the Vets 50 to 17th place
The final round is next Friday at East Carlton Park promoted by Rockingham Forest Whs.
